Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy represents the cutting edge of regenerative aesthetics — a treatment that uses the healing power already present in your own blood to rejuvenate skin, stimulate collagen, and restore a youthful radiance. Because PRP is derived entirely from your own plasma, it is one of the most biocompatible treatments available, with no risk of allergic reaction or rejection. At CosmeticaTX, we use PRP for facial rejuvenation, hair restoration, and as a powerful enhancement to micro-needling and other skin treatments.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentration of platelets and growth factors derived from your own blood. Platelets are the components of blood responsible for clotting and healing — they contain a rich array of growth factors, cytokines, and bioactive proteins that stimulate tissue repair, collagen production, and cellular regeneration. To prepare PRP, a small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and placed in a centrifuge, which spins the blood at high speed to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells. The resulting PRP contains a concentration of platelets and growth factors many times higher than normal blood. When applied to the skin or injected into targeted areas, these growth factors trigger a cascade of regenerative activity — stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, promoting cellular turnover, and improving the overall quality and vitality of the skin.
Your PRP session begins with a blood draw from your arm — typically 10 to 20 milliliters, similar to a standard blood test. The blood is placed in a centrifuge and spun for approximately 10 minutes to separate the platelet-rich plasma. While the PRP is being prepared, your provider cleanses and numbs the treatment area. The PRP is then applied to the skin in one of two ways: topically during or after micro-needling (allowing the growth factors to penetrate through the micro-channels), or injected directly into the skin using a fine needle or cannula for deeper rejuvenation. For hair restoration, PRP is injected into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles. The entire appointment takes 60 to 90 minutes, including blood draw and preparation time.
PRP therapy is suitable for adults who want to improve skin quality, address signs of aging, reduce scarring, or stimulate hair growth. Because PRP is derived from your own blood, it is appropriate for virtually all adults in good general health. It is particularly well-suited for clients who prefer natural, biologically-based treatments, those with sensitive skin who may not tolerate more aggressive treatments, and those looking to enhance the results of micro-needling or other skin treatments. Clients with certain blood disorders, platelet dysfunction, or who are on blood-thinning medications may not be candidates. A consultation will confirm whether PRP is appropriate for your health history and goals.
After your blood draw and PRP preparation, the treatment itself is relatively quick. If PRP is being combined with micro-needling, the procedure follows the standard micro-needling protocol with PRP applied during or after the treatment. If PRP is being injected directly, you will feel small pinches at the injection sites. Immediately after the treatment, the skin may appear red and slightly swollen — this is normal and resolves within 24 to 48 hours. Results from PRP develop gradually over four to six weeks as the growth factors stimulate new collagen production. Most clients see their best results after a series of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with continued improvement for up to three to six months after the final session.
PRP has minimal downtime. Most clients experience redness and mild swelling for 24 to 48 hours after the treatment. Because PRP is derived from your own blood, the risk of adverse reactions is extremely low. During the recovery period, use gentle, fragrance-free skincare products and avoid active ingredients (retinol, AHAs, BHAs) for 48 to 72 hours. Apply SPF 30 or higher every morning. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and steam for 24 hours after your session. If PRP was combined with micro-needling, follow the micro-needling aftercare guidelines.
PRP therapy is priced per session, with package pricing available for a series of three sessions. PRP is also available as an add-on to micro-needling treatments for enhanced results. For hair restoration, pricing is based on the number of sessions and the extent of the treatment area. A personalized quote will be provided during your consultation. Financing through CareCredit and Cherry is available.
